Mrs. Janie Lee (James) Watkins

Mrs. Janie Lee James Watkins was born on June11,1947 to the late Cuba Lee James Barringer and Marshall Thornton.  She was married to Matthew C. Watkins Jr. for 59 years. Janie departed this life on Friday, July 28, 2023 at her residence in Albemarle, NC.  Janie attended West Badin High School of Badin, NC. She also continued her education at Montgomery County Community College, studying in the field of nursing. Janie worked and retired from Lutheran Nursing Home of Albemarle, NC after 35yrs of service. Janie enjoyed cooking, working crossword puzzles, and caring for her family and others of her community. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Badin, NC, where she served as a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee for some time prior to illness. Janie leaves to cherish her memories: her husband Matthew C. Watkins, Children: Lasonja Watkins, Lovina (Nate)Gray, Antonio Cathy) Pemberton, Sisters: Shirley Jackson (Virginia), Faye (Ronald)Love, Marilyn Barringer, Rebecca Barringer, Mary Williams (NC), Vivian Poole and Debra Fountain (Florida), and bonus sister Lawanda Portor, Grandchildren: Maurice Watkins, Sharika Watkins, Quanterius Watkins Sr. (deceased), Marikus Watkins, Tomarkus Watkins, Antonio Watkins, Dominique Allen, Michael Todd Eudy, Labreia Pemberton, Jevaughn Polk, and Monique Wilson. Twenty great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, Carrie Barringer Brown (a concerned mother), her Lutheran Home “Crew”, and other friends who loved her dearly. Janie's grace will always be present in the hearts and soul to all who crossed her path. Her commitment as a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great-grand, and a friend will continue to bless the hearts of many for many years to come.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00pm at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 500 Sherman St., Badin NC 28009.  The family will receive family and friends at 1:30 prior to the service.

Interment will follow service at Oakview Cemetery in Badin NC.
