Mrs. Margaret Miller King McCaskill was born March 25, 1934, to the late George Miller and Nora Stover Miller in Union County, North Carolina. She was raised in Waxhaw, NC and educated in the Union County Public School System. Surrounded by loved ones, Margaret departed this life on May 15, 2023.
Margaret was the youngest of George and Nora’s children. She was preceded in death by siblings, Frank, Robert, Roosevelt, Clyde, Henry, Seatch, Eldora and Mary. At an early age, she married Howard Lee King, Sr who also preceded her in death. To this union three children were born – Howard, Renee’ and Denise.
Her early career assignments included industrial jobs. However, in the Union County Sheriff’s Department was where she found her passion. After 20 years of service, she retired as a detention officer ranking as a corporal from the Union County Sheriff’s Department. Margaret loved family and people so much that you always had a place to stay and eat. Her home was literally your home. As soon as you entered, she would begin to prepare a meal to ensure you wouldn’t leave until you were well fed. Margaret valued the importance of caring for children and truly possessed a servant’s heart. As a result, she not only raised her biological children, but she also fostered two others – Rose and Penny.
Upon retirement, she met and married Roosevelt McCaskill. They enjoyed many beautiful years cooking, visiting Walmart, and laughing together. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roosevelt and grandson Adonis Robinson.
